Abstract
We plan to make Gnosis Safe available to all relevant EVM-compliant networks. To that end, we have released a new version of the Gnosis SAFE smart contract: the Gnosis SAFE L2 contract.
In the next two months, we will start to officially support Arbitrum, Polygon, and BSC.
This summer, we'll support even more networks.
With gas prices hitting record highs this year, many customers have had to find low-cost alternatives to DeFi. At the same time, many networks designed to overcome scalability bottlenecks are finally coming online after years of development. These networks suddenly have a clear value proposition for Defi users and projects.
In the Rollup Incomplete Guide published in January, Vitapk Buterin said he believes that solutions like ZKSync, Optimism, and Arbitrum will be the primary means of achieving Ethereum scalability. However, at least in the short to medium term, many EVM-compliant Layer 1 networks (so-called side chains) will benefit from the scalability pressures of Ethereum Layer 1. Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, and XDAI may be able to build sustainable developer ecosystems. Other networks may offer a specific consensus/security model that appeals to different types of users or applications.
We see great potential in the ecosystem of these networks and Layer 2 projects. We expect a lot of economic activity to happen outside the Ethereum Layer 1 chain in the future. However, we remain bullish on Ethereum (as we always have been) and believe that Ethereum Layer 1 will remain at the heart of the multi-chain era:
Ethereum Layer 1 will remain a censorship-resistant global settlement Layer
We expect that most of the high-value interactions will still occur on Ethereum Layer 1. For these scenarios, security and censorship are more important than low transaction fees.
Ethereum Layer 1 is still the basis for finality and security, for example, storing transaction data for Rollup or enabling merkle root checkpoints in the COMMIT chain.
While Ethereum 2.0 by itself won't solve all scalability issues, it can make Ethereum Layer 1 a better foundation for Rollup and other Layer 2 scalability solutions.
We think Gnosis SAFE will play an important role in pushing Ethereum into the multi-chain era:
Being the operating system for Ethereum and EVM-based networks: Implementing full scenario generality and programmable accounts for networks.
An important infrastructure component that protects critical systems within a decentralized network. These key systems include cross-chain Bridges, scalable smart contract protocols, DAO Treasury, and more.
Every high-value network needs accounts that enable advanced access/control to avoid a single point of failure when managing large numbers of digital assets.
All of these factors add up to a Layer 2 strategy that cannot rely on just one network. We felt the need to make Gnosis SAFE applicable to any production-ready, EVM-compliant, relevant network.
Unfortunately, the existing Gnosis SAFE infrastructure cannot yet be deployed on other chains, as the Gnosis SAFE solution on Ethereum Layer 1 requires the use of a trace node to optimize gas usage. Other networks generally don't offer this tracking capability.
Fortunately for Layer 2 and EVM-based side chains, optimizing gas usage is not that important. Therefore, we can emit the required transaction data as an event, eliminating the need for a trace node. We call this new Gnosis SAFE contract instance: Gnosis SAFE L2.
We just finished our security audit of the Gnosis SAFE L2 contract. However, for every contract change (no matter how small), we strictly enforce security procedures before formally introducing a new contract version.
So does the Gnosis SAFE L2 contract. We have launched a one-week bug bounty program to allow security experts from across the community to test the integrity of the contract. We've also increased the maximum reward for serious bugs to $1 million.
In June, we'll be supporting more networks, starting with the most popular ones, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Binance Smart Chain.

Gnosis Safe's tentative rollout plans (subject to change)
We recently provided developers with a new way to easily integrate Gnosis Safe into dApps, allowing users to access dApps directly through the **Gnosis Safe interface. We are very much looking forward to seeing dApps built specifically for Layer 2/ side chains, taking advantage of the high throughput of these networks to create new possibilities.
Developers can build and test these DApps directly with Gnosis Safe, without waiting for Gnosis Safe to go live on a chain. We have just released a developer interface that allows developers to create SAFE and test their dApps on any EVM-compliant network, including those that have not yet gone online to Gnosis SAFE.
