On May 25, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that he is taking steps to encourage Bitcoin miners to use renewable energy for mining.
In today's tweet, Musk said he spoke to Bitcoin miners in North America. During the talks, the miners promised to publish plans for their use of renewable energy and disclose their current methods of obtaining renewable energy. They also promised to call on other miners around the world to do the same, Musk said.
Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, said he called the meeting. Saylor mentioned the formation of a "Bitcoin Mining Committee" that will improve transparency in energy use to "accelerate the pace of global sustainability initiatives."
According to Saylor, participants in the conference are from a number of bitcoin-related companies as well as mining companies. Executives from Argo, Block Cap, Core Scientific, Galaxy Digital, Hive, Hut8, Marathon, and Riot were all present. According to Saylor, they "decided to set up an organization to standardize energy reporting, pursue industry ESG goals and education and development markets."

Last week, Saylor said his "entities" held a total of 111,000 Bitcoins. He has been adding bitcoin to the balance sheet of software company MicroStrategy and has expressed his support for the web and cryptocurrencies.
Musk has previously been a vocal supporter of bitcoin, adding it to Tesla's balance sheet and accepting payments in cryptocurrency for cars. Recently, however, he announced that he would stop paying for bitcoin because mining it was not environmentally friendly. At the time, he said Tesla was considering using other, more environmentally friendly cryptocurrencies.
