Over the past 24 hours, FTX has seen trading in TRUMP contracts reach $27m

BlockBeats -- As the 2020 presidential election enters its final stages, speculation about the outcome of the hotly contested race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden is driving a surge in trading volume in the encrypted prediction market.

Decentralised forecasting platforms Augur and Polymarket have both recorded record volumes in the past 24 hours. During the vote count, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin took to Twitter to praise the success of the encrypted forecasting platform during the election, saying: "Whoever wins, I definitely think the market forecasts have proven more accurate than this poll/model."

Conventional polls give Biden an eight-point lead since early November. But as events unfolded, presidential scrip fluctuated wildly. The election market on FTX, the main cryptocurrency derivatives trading platform, has been volatile over the past day, with TRUMP contracts soaring from 38 cents to 80 cents as votes were counted, but falling again as Mr Biden's electoral college lead widened.

TRUMP is now trading around $0.15 on FTX, while BIDEN is trading around $0.85 on FTX. Each token can be exchanged for $1 if Mr Trump is re-elected and $0 if he is not.
