Ethereum 2.0 Is Set to Launch, But It Won't Be Ready to Use

Abstract

-ETH 2.0 is coming.

- This process starts when enough ETH is locked in its smart contract.

- The ETH 2.0 launch is unlikely to be delayed, according to people familiar with the matter. However, getting users to use ETH 2.0 the way they currently use ETH 1.0 is a long way off.

ETH 2.0 is a long-awaited upgrade to Ethereum's main network, which will provide extensibility for congested blockchain networks. The Ethereum Foundation announced on November 5 that ETH 2.0 is expected to start on December 1 when 16,384 verifiers put in a total of 524,288 ETH.

When the verifier pledges approximately $200 million worth of ETH into the ETH 2.0 intelligent contract, "Phase 0" is activated to allow the blockchain to begin operating. But this is only the first step in a long process, and it will only be a few years before ETH 2.0 becomes as useful as today's MAIN ETH 1.0 web.

But if all goes well, it will be worth the wait. ETH 1.0 currently handles 14 transactions per second, a common complaint among companies trying to profit from the blockchain, which is much slower than ETH 2.0. In the future, ETH 2.0 will be able to make 100,000 transactions per second.

Ethereum 2.0 moves the blockchain to the PoS consensus mechanism, where transactions are verified by people who hold a lot of ether. This is different from the existing PoW consensus mechanism, which rewards the most powerful miners.

When it goes live around December, all the ETH 2.0 blockchain phase 0 can do is validate the blocks. "What people think of as ethereum's core function is not part of phase zero," says Tim Ogilvie, CEO of Staked, a firm that handles servers and infrastructure on behalf of the pledgers. "People cannot send or receive ETH, and cannot participate in DeFi or other intelligent contract activities."

"0 stage does is to build up a mechanism to protect the safety of network consensus, and have enough money to protect all assets of the ETH. Later, phase 1 in intelligent contract will allow users to send or receive the ETH, and introducing subdivision technology, this technology is a kind of speed chain block. The second phase will be reintroduced we use ETH1 complete intelligent function contract," based on the subscribe of the ETH Groundhog's chief executive Scott Burke said.

Ogilvie says the most positive estimates for phase 1 are six months and two years for phase 2: "The more conservative estimates are much longer. So the full transition from ETH 1.0 to ETH 2.0 is still several years away."

What might go wrong with a Phase 0 release?

"At the moment, there's not much that can go wrong. There have been a number of community test networks, including two created specifically to test the origins of beacon chains, and huge bonuses paid to individuals who discover client problems." "Said Richard Ma, CEO of Quantstamp. Quantstamp has audited a number of ETH 2.0 clients.

Ogilvie said that over the past year or so, "hundreds, maybe thousands" of bugs have been fixed in the testing network. But even if the testers fixed those bugs, "there could be many more." Most of these are minor problems, Says Ogilvie, but "more problems only show up when you stop using test COINS and start using real money." Still, he wasn't worried.

Will it be delayed? "It depends on whether the individual is willing to run the verifier," Ma said. If people do not provide approximately $200 million worth of ETH, this process will not begin. Ogilvie said one problem could be that ETH 2.0 clients offer low yields compared to the juicy ones offered by the newer ETH 1.0-based DeFi protocol. It will be a long time before the pledged ETH can be extracted from the ETH 2.0 client.

"The smartest investors will probably be waiting around for a while while they figure out what this is really like." Ogilvie said. He believes that ETH advocates and the Ethereum Foundation will fund the project if there is a gap.

So far, about 1% of the money needed to start the network has been put into place. You can see how close stage 0 was to launch on the Depositcontract.eth, a user-friendly Ethereum address cast by the Ethereum Name Service.

The operating director of Ethereum Name Service, Brantly Millegan, said he was happy to play a minor role in the release of ETH 2.0, but his company is currently relying on ETH 1.0 and it will be years before it can benefit from the expansion potential of ETH 2.0.

Millegan adds that ETH 2.0 is "just one piece of the puzzle" to solve the ethereal bottleneck problem. Other scaling solutions, such as the Layer protocol, side chains, and so on, can all come into play. Each approach, he says, is moving "simultaneously".
