Following a $180,000 partnership with the U.S. Secret Service, Coinbase is once again working with the U.S. government. On July 15, the IRS agreed to pay up to $237,405 over the next two years to use Coinbase's blockchain analytics tracking software. The deal will take effect on July 23 for one year, with the option to renew for a second year, according to the IRS website.
Rivals Chaininbase Analytics and Elliptic are known to have worked with the IRS in the past. Despite Coinbase's claim that its Data from Coinbase Analytics are not linked to the platform's internal data, and a letter from Coinbase executives in the days after reports of its cooperation with the Secret Service made it clear that the data was not separate, there are concerns that the data could be turned over to government agencies.
