Michael Arrington, founder of TechCrunch, tweeted on June 8th that Deribit's story is one of the most interesting things he's seen in encryption.

Early this morning he tweeted that the press had been asking him (and everyone else) what it was, and he decided to go further.
He wrote: "Deribit headquarters in the Netherlands. Is an unregulated derivatives trading platform. As a result of the influence of European law, the company moved to panama (but are still in the Netherlands). The platform super profits. At the end of last year, Deribit began to raise funds through secondary sales, to raise funds for early founders and investors. The valuation eventually reach $280 million. Three Arrows Capital (the following abbreviated as 3 & have spent Arrows)And QCP Capital negotiated warrants for about 10% of the company at that price. If there are heroes and winners in this story, it's Spartan Group."& have spent & have spent
Michael Arrington goes on to say, here comes the good part. "QCP / 3 Arrows now has the warrants and a fixed price. Then they went out and looked for someone to resell the warrants at a $700 million valuation. If that happens, there's going to be a book and a movie about them, literally."
But when the Spartan Group heard about it, they were taken aback, and realized that if the story got out, they would have to get involved in it, which could damage their reputation. The content and language of some of the calls between Spartan Group and the new investors was colorful. Spartan Group wasn't cut, and Deribit heard about it and was angry about missing out on a $700 million valuation before dropping it to $350 million or $375 million by Three Arrows Capital/QCP.
As a result, the deal was eventually transferred to a third party at a valuation of $350m. An epic win for 3Arrows and QCP. But buyers are now hearing about how much more they are paying than they are worth, so some are super angry.
Meanwhile, 3 Arrows /QCP is currently in a new round of funding for Deribit with a higher $350 million valuation. Other shareholders are understood to have sold their shares to the two institutions for $280m. This is pure capitalism, applied to shareholders in unregulated, ill-informed financial entities. It is hard not to be impressed by what has been achieved in this field."& have spent
In a subsequent comment thanking Michael Arrington for exposing the affair, "The investors knew that an illegal securities issue was being sold through NBSP;3 Arrows and QCP Capital. In the process, the investors were harmed and cheated. Thank you for uncovering the fraud committed by the individuals involved in the transaction. "I'm not talking about the securities law in Singapore either, but I think it still applies. But that's not the focus of my Twitter. I think all the buyers are fairly experienced traders."

Spartan Group just tweeted a response to the story. The company posted that it has seen the Deribit deal speculation on Twitter recently and would like to clarify a few points:
Spartan Group only advises Deribit on its recent strategic deals;
2. Our consulting business cooperates with the world's top encryption projects and companies;
3. We connect clients with value-adding partners, 'Three Arrows Capital' and 'QCP Capital';
4. We are proud to be a part of the Deribit team. It's a great business and we'll continue to support it.

Suzhu, Chief executive of Three Arrows Capital, then tweeted in response that 'it was just an early investor finding a worthy deal and trying to raise more money for a profitable company that is growing fast.' He also notes that Deribit has set new records for both volume and profits this year.
