Messari: 69% of Ethereum nodes are occupied by the three major cloud providers
According to cryptocurrency analytics platform Messari, the majority of 4,653 active Ethereum (ETH) nodes are held by centralized network providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), with more than 50% of them coming from AWS, More than 15% came from Hetzner and 4.1% from OVH. Messari said in a December 2020 report that the high cost of running node infrastructure could make Ethereum more vulnerable to attacks.
On top of that, according to Ethernode data, nodes are most geographically concentrated in the US (46.4%) and Germany (13.4%), so government intervention in these two countries could seriously impact Ethereum's node-level decentralization.
