Beating AI News Flash: Hardware startup Aina has released an AI ring with a screen. Its biggest highlight is allowing users to approve AI Agent operations directly on their finger, without repeatedly pulling out their phone, opening an app, and tapping to confirm.
Aina predicts the next three operations a user may need based on their schedule, location, and daily habits, and displays the most relevant one on the ring's screen. For example, if the user takes a ride to work at 8:30 every morning, it will proactively prompt them to call a car when the time comes; if they are about to be late for a meeting, it will suggest having the Agent send a notification on their behalf. Users only need to flick the miniature joystick on the ring with their thumb to approve or ignore an operation, and the screen will also display the execution result.
The ring is equipped with an OLED screen, microphone, and speaker. In addition to controlling the Agent, it can also be used for voice notes, making and receiving calls, controlling music, and switching shortcut actions based on the software currently open on a Mac, such as muting a meeting or turning the camera on or off.
Founder Apoorv Shankar is actually a veteran in the smart ring field. In 2017, he founded the hardware company LazyCo, and in 2019 he launched the first-generation Aina Ring, attempting to use a ring to control phones, call rides, and manage smart home devices, raising nearly $40,000 on Kickstarter.
In 2022, smart ring company Ultrahuman acquired LazyCo, and Shankar subsequently served as Vice President of Hardware at Ultrahuman. After leaving, he started another company, Aina. This time, he has further extended the ring interaction methods he researched in his early years to AI Agents.
Similar products include Pebble Index 01 and Sandbar Stream, but they mainly focus on voice recording. Aina, by contrast, combines proactive prediction, visual confirmation, and cross-app operations, hoping to make the ring a portable control entry point for AI Agents.
The first batch of the ring is priced at $399 for pre-order, with a regular list price of $499, and shipments are planned to begin in January 2027.
