Beating AI News Flash: Perplexity has officially launched Teammates, enabling AI Agents to take long-term responsibility for specific tasks like employees. CEO Aravind Srinivas revealed that the company created approximately 10,000 AI Teammates internally in the past 30 days, 20 times the total number of human employees.
Teammates is built on Perplexity Computer. Users simply assign a role, goals, and permissions to the AI, and it can continuously track work progress, proactively identify issues, and invoke tools to handle them. Multiple Teammates can also divide work among themselves and contact human colleagues via Slack.
For example, a sales Agent can detect that a customer hasn't placed an order for a long time, automatically investigate the reason, and prepare a follow-up plan. A development Agent, upon discovering a website bug, can hand it off to another Agent to write the fix code. Each Agent has an independent work environment, retaining project memory and task history. Users can check progress, adjust direction, or take over operations at any time.
This product has actually been in the works for a long time. Business Insider exposed Perplexity's internal Teammate tool as early as July this year, when it was mainly used for software engineering work such as bug troubleshooting and system monitoring. Now it has been further expanded to marketing, sales, customer service, and operations, with long-term task management and cross-Agent collaboration added.
Teammates is currently available as a research preview to Max subscribers at $200 per month, initially supporting the web version, with native mobile and desktop versions to follow.
