BlockBeats news, November 6 — An anonymous seller has listed approximately $500 million in data center loan portfolios for sale all at once through a bidding process, involving more than ten loans in total, with a bid deadline of November 19 and a minimum bid of $10 million per loan. The portfolio includes a $25 million share supporting the OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle Stargate project in New Mexico, and that site is precisely where Oracle issued a force majeure notice.
This auction follows the Democrats' landslide victory in the U.S. midterm elections and is seen as a landmark event signaling that the credit market has turned more pessimistic about the prospects for AI infrastructure expansion and that hedge funds are selling off AI-related debt on a large scale.
Some analysts believe the anonymous seller is the hedge fund Walleye. Yesterday's news indicated that Walleye Capital is restructuring its internal equities business and preparing to return capital to investors. This $17 billion hedge fund, after experiencing its worst monthly performance since March 2020, is parting ways with the leadership of its equity long-short business as well as several portfolio managers.
