BlockBeats news, November 5 - According to Cointelegraph, Sheldon Xia, founder of the crypto trading platform BitMart, which has announced shutdown and is pursuing restructuring, posted that following the latest hack, the platform's security team is currently "severely understaffed" but is still doing its utmost to safeguard data and asset security.
Xia confirmed a new attack occurred on Monday, saying the amount involved was relatively small but did not disclose the specific figure. An investigation by blockchain analytics firm Bitquery shows that wallets associated with BitMart had approximately $391,000 in suspicious transfers across three chains, and the fund flows are also linked to wallets involved in the over $46 million theft from Brazilian trading platform Mercado Bitcoin on November 2, corroborating its preliminary assessment that the same group may be responsible. Xia also mentioned that threats against employees and suspected retaliatory actions by former employees have made it more difficult to retain key technical positions.
BitMart previously announced in July that it would halt trading on August 26 and cease operations in January 2027; the restructuring plan announced on Monday lists three types of user recovery options, including liquid asset distribution and recovery-linked tokens, and plans to seek court approval in December or January.
