According to PolyBeats monitoring, on October 26, France Football announced the results of the 2026 Ballon d'Or in Paris. On October 30, The Guardian reported that France Football has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the leak of the results and suspicious trading on Polymarket, and has contacted French police.
The suspicious account reported by this channel on October 19 is Kallipso (formerly known as BriardxO before this year's results were announced), which French sports media outlet Upside named on October 31. The account, registered in 2024, bought into multiple markets related to that year's Ballon d'Or 32 minutes after registration, investing a total of $2.1k and ultimately making a profit of $29.4k. In 2025, Kallipso entered 8 days after the voting deadline, buying popular options such as Dembélé to win and Bonmatí to win the Women's Ballon d'Or, profiting $672 and $1.22k respectively on the two trades. After both editions ended, the account withdrew its funds to Binance.
This year, voting for the Ballon d'Or closed at midnight on September 28. According to Upside's tally, in the hours before the deadline, Kane's probability of winning fell from 50% to 42% without any news, and Kallipso made its first purchase of $20 on Kane to win "Yes" at 42.2 cents one minute before the deadline. Kallipso bought a cumulative $31.5k this year, making a profit of $14.0k.
The investigation reported by The Guardian mainly targets another 12 accounts disclosed by Upside on October 23. According to The Guardian, these accounts were all registered between October 1 and 20, invested a combined total of more than $264k, and correctly picked the top-five order of Kane, Mbappé, Yamal, Rodri, and Messi, earning nearly $200k in profit.
France Football editor-in-chief Vincent Garcia said that only 3 to 5 people learn the results early each year, and "as long as 3, 4, or 5 people know, the risk of a leak is not zero."
