Binance attacker suspected of mistakenly transferring $3.5 million worth of tokens to the NEWT contract address, assets permanently locked.

BlockBeats news, October 30: The Newton Foundation stated in a post that the attacker in the Binance hack incident earlier today appeared to have made an operational error, transferring approximately 8 million NEWT and 17 other tokens directly into the NEWT token contract address. The tokens involved are worth a combined total of about $3.5 million at current prices. Among them are tokens including ANIME, ANKR, ARPA, BARD, FTT, LQTY, SIGN, and WOO.

The foundation emphasized that the NEWT token contract itself was not attacked. Upon inspection, the contract is immutable, has no owner or admin, all administrative permissions were renounced on-chain in 2025, and upgrade functionality has been permanently disabled. Therefore, no one, including the foundation, can retrieve the tokens that were transferred directly into the contract.

The foundation stated that these tokens are now permanently locked, out of the attacker's control, and can no longer be sold into the market. The relevant investigation findings have been communicated to Binance, and the foundation will continue to provide assistance.
