BlockBeats news, October 29 — The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that it will hold an industry roundtable on December 15 to discuss the feasibility of implementing 24/7 trading in the derivatives market. The meeting will continue the CFTC's work this summer in soliciting public comment on extending trading hours for standard futures contracts and introducing perpetual contract mechanisms.
The meeting will focus on topics including overnight trading, asset tokenization, infrastructure development, staffing, and operational readiness, exploring how to protect market participants' rights while promoting financial innovation and safeguarding the integrity and resilience of the U.S. derivatives market.
CFTC Chairman Selig stated that the regulator will not take a "one-size-fits-all" approach to 24/7 trading, but instead hopes to advance the development of trading mechanisms across different asset classes in a prudent and responsible manner by listening to views from all sectors of the industry.
The meeting will be held at the CFTC's headquarters in Washington and will be livestreamed to the public. The specific agenda, speakers, and registration information will be announced later.
