Bankless: Zcash Development Fund Surplus Sparks Controversy, Four Proposals Target Block Reward Distribution Mechanism

BlockBeats news, October 28 — Bankless published a discussion on the controversy surrounding excess Zcash development funding, noting that the funding scale of the Zcash development grant program continues to expand, with the current net funding scale estimated at approximately $125 million, far exceeding current expenditure needs. Zcash co-founder and current Tachyon lead Sean Bowe has proposed a draft suggesting terminating the 8% block reward currently allocated to ZCG in a future network upgrade.

Around the development funding mechanism, four proposals have now emerged in the community, respectively involving terminating ZCG grants, canceling the entire development fund grant mechanism, or gradually reducing the grant proportion to zero. Supporters believe the current mechanism causes funds to continuously accumulate as the ZEC price rises, but ZCG is not directly controlled by coin holders; opponents worry that cutting development funding without an alternative could affect subsequent protocol development and maintenance. All proposals remain in the discussion stage and have not yet been finalized.
