Discord to allow search engines to index some public chats, users can opt out in privacy settings.

BlockBeats news, October 28 - Discord announced that it will allow search engines like Google to index chat content from some large public servers. The new policy applies to "Discoverable Servers" with at least 1,000 members, listed in Discord's public directory, and joinable without an invite.

Starting November 16, these servers will have public web pages that may include summaries of discussions in public channels; from mid-December, individual messages in eligible channels may appear in search results. Historical messages posted before the feature launch will not be included, and public messages will not display usernames or avatars.

Users can go to "User Settings → Data & Privacy" to turn off the option to display messages from discoverable channels on the web, and the setting will cover all discoverable servers they have joined. If they opt out after the launch, only messages sent after opting out will be protected; to remove previously eligible public messages, they must be deleted in Discord, and search engine caches may still retain them for a period of time.

This feature is not available to teen users and is off by default in regions such as the EU, UK, Canada, and South Korea. Server administrators can also use "Server Settings → Web Presence" to prevent messages from the entire server or individual channels from appearing on public web pages and in search results, and separately disable discussion summaries.
