BlockBeats news, October 27 - According to Bloomberg, Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel stated that the personalized mRNA cancer vaccine developed in collaboration with Merck has the potential to be used for multiple cancers beyond melanoma. However, this remains the company's assessment of the product's potential, and whether the vaccine can achieve efficacy in other cancer types still requires clinical trial verification.
This vaccine is customized based on the genetic information of a patient's tumor, designed to help the immune system recognize and attack cancer cells. Currently, related research has been expanded to kidney cancer, lung cancer, and bladder cancer. Previously published melanoma trial results from Moderna and Merck showed that the vaccine helps reduce the risk of cancer recurrence, but some investors remain cautious about whether this effect can be replicated in other cancer types.
Bancel said that the kidney cancer trial may become the next noteworthy development, with related data potentially announced between the end of this year and early next year. He also stated that the company is working to improve the production efficiency of personalized vaccines. The final efficacy of the vaccine in other cancer types and its large-scale production capacity still await verification through subsequent data and R&D progress.
