Explosions reported in southern Iran, 'US-Iran ceasefire continues' market triggers disputed settlement

According to monitoring by PolyBeats, on the evening of October 21, Iran's official news agencies IRNA and Fars News reported that "several explosions were heard" in the Karpan area of Sirik along the coast of the Strait of Hormuz, with no mention of casualties. Anadolu Agency, Xinhua News Agency, and Iran International subsequently relayed the Iranian state media reports.

The Jerusalem Post's live blog page relayed claims that the strikes were "reportedly by US forces," but the US side has not confirmed this; the same page also mentioned that dozens of Israeli fighter jets were conducting drills near the Iranian border at the time. Open-source intelligence accounts on X, faultlineworld and GlobalDefenseAn, claimed that US MQ-9 drones struck Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps anti-ship missile launch vehicles, a claim that has likewise not been confirmed. As of now, neither US nor Iranian officials have made statements, nor have they indicated that the explosions were carried out by US forces.

The Polymarket market "Will the US-Iran ceasefire hold until October 22?" currently shows a 98% probability for "Yes" and is in a disputed settlement status. In the Polymarket Discord discussion, traders arguing for an immediate "Yes" ruling believe that no credible reports identify the US or Israel, that only explosions were heard, and that a dispute cannot be initiated merely because it is "theoretically possible."
