JPMorgan: Tech sector still has $400 billion in surplus funds this year, AI infrastructure investment cycle difficult to shake

BlockBeats news, October 22 - JPMorgan's latest report shows that global listed tech companies are expected to generate approximately $2.2 trillion in operating cash flow this year, with capital expenditures and R&D spending totaling about $1.8 trillion. After deductions, there remains a surplus of approximately $400 billion, sufficient to support current AI infrastructure investment without relying on external financing.

Regarding recent market concerns about the sustainability of financing models for Neoclouds, JPMorgan believes that their scale remains limited relative to the entire tech industry, and even if financing comes under pressure, it would be difficult to shake the overall AI investment cycle. The report estimates that Neoclouds' operating cash flow this year is approximately $30 billion, while capital expenditures and R&D spending are approximately $80 billion; if there is a funding gap in their construction financing, hyperscalers with more robust balance sheets can still take over the related demand.

Additionally, JPMorgan points out that the current financing needs of the tech sector partly stem from large-scale share buybacks, and companies can free up funds by reducing buybacks to maintain AI investment. Meanwhile, overall market equity positioning has retreated from its mid-September peak, and trend-following investors' long positions in semiconductors have been largely unwound. The bank believes that short-term market downside is gradually narrowing.
