BlockBeats news, October 19 — QCP released its latest market analysis. Bitcoin mainly fluctuated in the $80,000 to $83,000 range last week, with strong support near $80,000. Meanwhile, tech stocks continued to come under pressure, with CoreWeave's five-year credit default swap (CDS) spread widening to more than 1,100 basis points, highlighting market concerns over debt-financed AI infrastructure buildout and putting pressure on semiconductor sector valuations.
On the macro front, U.S. CPI data came in above expectations, pushing the two-year Treasury yield briefly close to 4.9% and the ten-year yield above 5.3%, but defensive buying subsequently drove yields across maturities lower. Although Thursday's PPI data remained strong, the Treasury selloff did not persist. After Fed Chair Warsh's remarks on Friday, market expectations for an October rate hike fell to about 15%, down from less than 30% earlier in the week. The pullback in yield expectations provided some support for bitcoin and other risk assets.
On market capital rotation, investors are shifting from the semiconductor sector to defensive sectors such as healthcare and banks. The UK's FTSE index, which has lower tech weighting, has recently outperformed U.S. stock indices with higher tech exposure. Renewed demand for long-term Treasuries and bitcoin's relative resilience may reflect the market reducing concentrated exposure to the AI theme, but there is currently no evidence confirming that institutional funds are flowing directly into the crypto market.
On volatility, bitcoin's implied volatility across maturities is below the average of the corresponding distribution over the past year. Market makers' positive gamma positions may help keep prices confined within the existing range, but as options expire and related positions gradually unwind, this stabilizing effect may weaken, and bitcoin's reaction to new catalysts may become more sensitive.
QCP noted that if U.S. equity deleveraging continues, pressure could transmit to the crypto market and threaten the $80,000 support level; conversely, if Treasuries continue to strengthen while real yields fall and the dollar weakens, this could provide support for risk assets. If bitcoin continues to break out of the $80,000 to $88,000 range, both spot prices and implied volatility could see more violent repricing.
