OpenAI is in talks to acquire crypto security firm Trail of Bits

BlockBeats news, October 14 — According to The Information, people familiar with the matter revealed that OpenAI is in early acquisition talks with New York-based crypto cybersecurity firm Trail of Bits to expand its cybersecurity business. The deal size has not been disclosed, and neither party has publicly confirmed it.

Trail of Bits was founded in 2012 and has about 40 employees. It focuses on discovering and fixing vulnerabilities in open-source software and has provided security audits for crypto projects such as Uniswap, Aave, and Worldcoin. In June 2026, OpenAI partnered with the company to launch the "Patch the Planet" open-source security initiative, combining OpenAI models with Trail of Bits experts. It has already discovered hundreds of vulnerabilities and merged dozens of patches.
