The last time Kansas elected a Democratic federal senator was in 1932, and since then, no Democratic candidate has even narrowed the gap to within 10 percentage points since 1974. Marshall was elected in 2020 with a margin of over 11 percentage points, and Trump also won the state in 2024 by nearly 16 percentage points.

The Emerson poll from September 15 to 16 shows that Democratic candidate Adam Hamilton leads Republican candidate Roger Marshall 45% to 43%; the Republican-leaning Trafalgar also measured Hamilton slightly ahead.

Hamilton himself is also relatively suited to attracting center-right voters in Kansas. He is one of the leaders of the largest United Methodist Church in the United States, and during his campaign, he emphasized moderation and bipartisan cooperation. Emerson data shows that he not only secured the Democratic base but also leads significantly among independent voters.
