Binance Pay allows users in Japan to make payments to PayPay merchants using USDT.

BlockBeats news, September 30: Starting Wednesday, Binance Pay will allow eligible overseas users to pay with USDT at the vast majority of merchants that support PayPay while visiting Japan. The service operates through the payment interoperability framework HIVEX, while merchants still settle in Japanese yen.

Binance said this is the first crypto payment service to connect to the PayPay merchant network through HIVEX, and the relevant merchants do not need to apply separately or individually enable the feature. PayPay is currently accepted at millions of locations across Japan, covering large chain stores, small and medium-sized retailers, vending machines, taxis, and public transportation.

HIVEX currently also supports 9 overseas payment services. Japan received a total of 42.7 million international visitors in 2025; in the first 8 months of 2026, visitors to Japan totaled 27.6 million, down 2.7% year-on-year.
