OpenAI Reopens $200 Pro: Price Unchanged, API Equivalent Usage Halved

Tibo Sottiaux explicitly stated that, when converted into equivalent API spending, the new plan is only about half of the old version. The price has not changed, and the most certain change is that the API-equivalent quota has shrunk. Exactly how much 20x becomes after the change, OpenAI has not yet announced.

OpenAI's explanation is that the API prices for Sol and Luna have just dropped by about 50%, and models will also become increasingly efficient, so a smaller "dollar quota" may still be able to complete roughly the same amount of work or even more. This logic may hold for models whose prices have also been halved, but it does not mean all models can stay on par. The so-called "can do more work" is also currently unsupported by actual test data comparing the old and new plans.

In addition, the usage of Pro 20x has always lacked transparency. Over the past few weeks, a large number of user reports have appeared on GitHub and in the OpenAI community: weekly quotas suddenly dropping sharply, reset times changing, or long-context and multi-agent tasks consuming far more than expected. Some users also said that a single Astra Ultra task consumed about 2.4 Pro 20x weekly quotas in 5.2 hours.
