Zcash plans to launch the NU7 mainnet upgrade on November 5, shortening block time to 25 seconds.

BlockBeats news, September 18: The Zcash development team plans to launch the NU7 mainnet upgrade on November 5, with relevant organizations and engineering teams having reached consensus on the upgrade content and estimated timeline. Developer Sean Bowe stated that NU7 will activate on the testnet on October 6, and the team will evaluate testnet performance before making a final decision on the mainnet upgrade and its activation block height on October 20.

NU7 will reduce Zcash's target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, while discontinuing V4 version transactions and integrating the Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM). The selected NSM configuration will retain ZEC's existing halving schedule, with previously removed circulating supply set to be reissued starting in February 2031.

Bowe stated that NU7 will not introduce new transaction formats, and the impact on wallets is expected to be limited, but full nodes, indexers, and block explorers may require adjustments. In a previous vote, 99.9% of ZEC-weighted votes supported shortening the block time, and 98.9% supported retaining the halving mechanism.
