OpenAI: Collaborating with Anthropic and Google on AI safety efforts

Beating AI News Flash: According to foreign media reports, OpenAI is working with its main competitor Anthropic and Google (GOOG.O) DeepMind to develop measures to address AI safety issues, a move that further advances industry efforts to address growing concerns about the potential economic and security threats posed by this technology. Chris Lehane, OpenAI's global policy chief, said on Tuesday that the company's cooperation with Anthropic and Google has been ongoing for several weeks.

He added that OpenAI believes the three AI companies do not need antitrust exemptions to coordinate on safety issues. Lehane said, "Rather than competing with each other, it is better to work together and put safety first." Lehane pointed out that there is ample precedent for coordination among companies on AI safety, citing the aviation industry as an example: "There have been many cases in the past where companies have worked to help each other improve safety levels."
