Doubao Mobile Assistant Goes Official: GUI Operation of Apps Retained, but Apps Can Reject AI Operations

Beating AI News Flash: Doubao has officially released the consumer version of its mobile assistant. It remains an AI assistant software developed through system-level collaboration with smartphone manufacturers. The first mass-produced device, the Nubia NaviX Ultra, was previously announced and will be released and go on sale on September 16.

The most controversial feature, "operating the phone," has not been cut and remains in Beta form. Doubao has also introduced the SAEP (Screen Automation Execution Protocol), which allows third-party apps to define whether AI can read the screen, tap, and execute operations within the app; if explicitly refused, Doubao will not continue automated operations.

In July, LatePost reported that the new generation of Doubao phones will no longer directly operate super apps like Alibaba's and Tencent's via GUI. Only if these apps proactively open MCP services can Doubao access the relevant data and functions.

MCP is when apps proactively open interfaces to Doubao; SAEP governs how far developers allow Doubao to go when it operates apps through screen reading and simulated clicks. Both mechanisms now exist simultaneously.
