BlockBeats news, September 13: Crypto investor Christopher Harborne donated £36 million (approximately $48.7 million) to Nigel Farage's Reform UK on Saturday, matching the amount donated by BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo the previous day. The two crypto billionaires donated a combined £72 million (approximately $97.4 million) within 24 hours.
The two donations are tied as the largest individual political donations in British political party history. Harborne is an investor in stablecoin issuer Tether and crypto trading platform Bitfinex, and stated he is not seeking a peerage or policy changes; Nigel Farage said the funds will help Reform UK compete in the next UK general election.
The report did not specify whether the latest donation was made in cryptocurrency; Harborne's previous £9 million donation was made in cash. Currently, the Metropolitan Police is investigating allegations related to Reform UK political donations, and Farage is also under investigation by the parliamentary standards commissioner for receiving a £5 million personal gift from Harborne before being elected as an MP in 2024. Both Reform UK and Farage deny any wrongdoing.
