AI safety concerns escalate as three major AI giants successively call for slowing down frontier model development.

Beating AI News Flash: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a lengthy blog post on Saturday, stating that the company will adopt new safety measures, such as bringing in third-party evaluators, while calling on the entire industry to support broader measures to slow down AI model development. OpenAI CEO Altman quickly said he would adopt Amodei's proposal to "give independent evaluation institutions access similar to that of employees." Elon Musk, who runs xAI, also said: "Dario is right."

Although these three leaders have warned about the risks of artificial intelligence for years, in this highly competitive industry, there is almost no precedent for truly coordinated efforts to slow down development. For a long time, companies have continuously launched new products to increase user engagement, seize market share, and drive sales growth. It is currently unclear to what extent these leading AI companies will actually implement new restrictions or safety checks.
