'AI Stock God' Leopold Makes a Comeback in the Options Market, with Positions Still Centered on the AI Infrastructure and Storage Narrative

BlockBeats news, September 11, according to CNBC, the hedge fund Situational Awareness, managed by "AI stock god" Leopold who nearly faced margin call in the summer, is suspected to be making a comeback, once again making moves in the options market. Sources say founder Leopold repurchased options from last weekend to early this week, with underlying assets still primarily positions in the "AI infrastructure/storage" narrative, including SK Hynix, SanDisk, AMD, Bloom Energy, CoreWeave, and also bought the storage-themed ETF Roundhill Memory (DRAM), with the options scale in the hundreds of millions of dollars. It is currently unclear whether this options purchase involves newly raised public market funds or the remaining capital after the July sell-off.

In July of this year, the hedge fund Situational Awareness, managed by former OpenAI researcher Leopold, known as the "AI stock god," suffered a major setback. The fund's size had once exceeded $45 billion at the beginning of the month, due to high-leverage positions in AI-related stocks such as storage, power, and computing. As stock prices plummeted sharply in the summer, triggering margin pressure, it was forced to sell almost all its public market stock positions at a discount to Citadel Securities, rapidly reducing the scale to about $10 billion, while private positions, especially Anthropic equity, were retained.
