动察 Beating AI Flash: OpenAI's Korea head Harrison Kim said that OpenAI is jointly developing and producing next-generation chips with Samsung Electronics, and the two sides have made notable progress in this collaboration. He did not disclose details on chip architecture, process technology, or mass production timeline.
Samsung has previously been primarily a supplier in OpenAI's chip landscape. When both parties joined the Stargate Korea project last year, Samsung Electronics' publicly stated role was to provide OpenAI with advanced memory chips, along with wafer foundry and advanced packaging capabilities. This time, however, marks the first explicit move into joint development and production of next-generation chips.
OpenAI's first self-developed inference chip, Jalapeño, was only unveiled in June this year, co-developed with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC, with deployment planned to begin by year-end. OpenAI stated at the time that Jalapeño was just the first generation, with plans to continue developing multiple subsequent chip generations.
