BlockBeats News, September 9 - According to official sources, Osmosis has reported a vulnerability on the Nomic chain. The flaw allowed an attacker to double-spend nBTC, thereby sending false vouchers to Osmosis. Osmosis and IBC remain unaffected, as the bug resides in Nomic's custom forwarding mechanism.
Of the total minted supply, 39.84 nBTC is held in Alloyed BTC, accounting for approximately 36% of its backing. Upon discovery of the issue, moderation subDAOs froze inflows and outflows of Nomic and Alloyed BTC on Osmosis and, in coordination with validators, executed an emergency upgrade, freezing 22.65 BTC in the attacker's address.
Osmosis will propose a governance motion to seize these assets and request that governance utilize the BTC accumulated in the community pool to cover the remaining balance and restore full backing for Alloyed BTC.
