BlockBeats News, September 5th, CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost stated that on-chain activity among long-term Bitcoin holders (OGs) has notably heated up recently. During the current phase of market consolidation, the 90-day moving average of spent UTXOs (STXO) by investors holding BTC for over 5 years has risen to approximately 1,500 BTC.
Back in May this year, the average amount of BTC transferred via UTXOs by this group was only about half of current levels. In other words, over the past 3 months, long-term Bitcoin holders with holdings exceeding 5 years have been moving their BTC more frequently. This suggests that the ongoing market consolidation may be intensifying uncertainty among different types of investors, with even early Bitcoin holders who have weathered multiple market cycles beginning to adjust their on-chain asset allocations.
However, OGs moving BTC does not necessarily indicate concentrated selling. Some funds may simply be transferred to other wallets or more secure storage environments—for instance, the recent Coldcard-related incident may have prompted some holders to proactively adjust their BTC storage methods. Therefore, current on-chain data more accurately reflects increased activity among the OG cohort, and UTXO transfer volumes alone cannot be used to determine their specific buying or selling intentions.
