Kalshi Removes Athlete Injury Prediction Markets at CFTC Request

BlockBeats News, September 3rd - According to Sportico, Kalshi removed from its application a prediction market related to the duration of athletes' injuries on Tuesday. This move was reportedly made in response to a request from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Since 2026, Kalshi has facilitated at least hundreds of thousands of dollars in predictions related to player health conditions, leveraging the uncertainty of well-known players' injuries such as Luka Dončić, Anthony Edwards, and Malik Nabors, and charging fees for the related predictions.

Critics argue that injury predictions commodify sensitive medical information, potentially increasing the risk of harassment to healthcare providers while also being susceptible to manipulation.
