ChatGPT to Face Stricter EU Cybersecurity Regulation

BlockBeats News, August 31st, the European Commission said on Monday that OpenAI's ChatGPT will have to comply with stricter EU regulations, such as removing illegal content, or face fines. Meanwhile, Brussels is working to clarify how the existing digital regulatory framework applies to rapidly growing artificial intelligence services.

The European Commission stated that the chatbot ChatGPT, social media forum Reddit, and gaming platform Roblox have been classified under the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA) as so-called "very large online platforms," marking a milestone in the EU's network security regulatory regime.

This classification means that these three services will have additional obligations, including removing illegal content, protecting the privacy and safety of minors; failure to comply could result in fines of up to 6% of global revenue. This decision marks a further expansion of the DSA regulatory scope into the generative artificial intelligence field. Previously, social platform X's AI chatbot Grok has faced an investigation under this law.
