The US Government Sells Anthropic Shares Held by Two Core SBF Allies, Potential Value in the Billions

BlockBeats News, August 31, the U.S. government previously seized the Anthropic shares held by FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF)'s two key allies, Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh, and will sell the related shares to existing Anthropic investors in 2025, but the specific buyer, transaction price, and the amount received by the government have not been disclosed to date.

The court had previously ruled that Ellison and Singh should forfeit their Anthropic shares. The U.S. government acquired the two individuals' shares in February and April 2025, respectively. The two had previously invested $10 million and $40 million, respectively, in the Anthropic Series B round financing in 2022.

With the rapid increase in Anthropic's valuation, the value of their shares has significantly appreciated. UCLA Professor Olav Sorenson estimated that based on Anthropic's announced valuation of $965 billion in May this year, the combined value of their holdings is approximately $4.17 billion to $5.03 billion; if Anthropic goes public at a valuation of $2 trillion in the future, the value of the related shares could reach around $5.44 billion.

It is currently unclear at what price the U.S. government will sell these shares. Estimates indicate that if the transactions occur at different points in 2025, the proceeds from the sale of the relevant shares could range from approximately $250 million to $1.1 billion.

Of note, as of the end of June 2026, the proceeds from the sale have apparently not been transferred to the FTX bankruptcy estate management system. Sunil Kavuri, a representative for FTX victims, stated that the government should use the funds for compensating the victims; the U.S. Department of Justice, on the other hand, said that it prioritizes compensating victims from seized assets, but information regarding the asset sale and fund distribution is confidential.
