OpenClaw 2.0 Release: Most Significant Update Ever After 7 Weeks

Perceive Beating AI News, the last major version of OpenClaw was released in mid-July, and since then, there has been almost a 7-week gap without another formal major release. Previously, it was updating approximately every two days, but this time there has been a noticeable slowdown.

Today, the OpenClaw development team released a new version called "OpenClaw 2.0," which is also the largest update to the project to date. 933 developers participated, contributing over 16,000 PRs, accounting for about half of all merged PRs in the project's history.

The focus of this release is on lowering the entry barrier. During installation, it will automatically detect existing ChatGPT, Claude subscriptions, API keys, and local models on the computer, reducing manual configuration. The browser interface has also been redesigned to allow direct chatting, task continuation, and session management, supporting multi-party join-in or handover for the same task.

The update also involves messages, memory, Skills, models, automation, plugins, security, and a native app. In the past 230 days, OpenClaw has released 106 versions. The team acknowledges that the previous releases were too frequent, and the underlying architecture and release process could not keep up. Moving forward, OpenClaw will continue to reduce the update frequency.
