The U.S. state of California's "Meme Coin Bill" AB2409 has passed both houses of the state legislature and is awaiting the governor's signature.

BlockBeats News, August 28, the U.S. California "meme coin" regulatory bill AB 2409 has passed the California State Assembly and Senate votes and has now been submitted to the Governor's office for signing.

The bill will prohibit California public officials and government employees from issuing meme coins, and will prohibit digital asset service providers from providing meme coin transaction services to California residents starting from January 1, 2027, that are issued or co-launched by federal officials or state and local public officials.

If signed by the Governor, AB 2409 will become one of the first state-level regulations in the United States to restrict the issuance of meme coins by political figures.
