Anthropic has seamlessly integrated Claude's two sets of browser capabilities. The Claude Cowork desktop version now comes with a built-in browser that opens web tasks directly in the sidebar. Claude can navigate web pages, click, input, and fill out forms on its own without the need for installing Chrome extensions. Meanwhile, Claude in Chrome has concluded its testing phase and is now officially open to all paid packages.

The main difference between the two lies in the login state. Cowork uses Claude's own browser, separated from the user's usual browser, and by default cannot see your tabs, bookmarks, or passwords. Users can import login information per website. Claude in Chrome, on the other hand, directly operates within your already open and logged-in Chrome, making it more suitable for handling emails, CRMs, or web pages being edited.

This Chrome version has also introduced automated actions. Previously, Claude required user approval for almost every step; now, it first scans the web page for malicious instructions and then checks if the planned action aligns with the original task. Once the security check is passed, it can proceed with the operations on its own. In Anthropic's latest red team tests, Sonnet 5 and Opus 5 showed no indications of successful word injection attacks, while Fable 5 had a success rate of 0.3%. However, the official team acknowledges that such risks cannot be completely eliminated.
