The robotics startup Generalist has seen its valuation soar to $3 billion, with 8VC leading a nearly $200 million funding round for expansion.

BlockBeats News, August 26th - Robot base model startup Generalist has completed a nearly $200 million extension financing round led by 8VC, with a post-investment valuation of $3 billion. This is an extension of the $400 million Series B financing announced by the company in June, led by Radical Ventures at a valuation of $20 billion. The total amount raised in this round of extension is $600 million.

Generalist was founded in 2024, and the founding team includes former Google DeepMind researcher Pete Florence and Andy Zeng, as well as former Boston Dynamics engineer Andrew Barry. Early investors include NVIDIA, Union Square Ventures, Bezos Expeditions, and AI researcher Fei-Fei Li. The company's latest Gen 1.5 model, released recently, claims to allow robots to learn new tasks from a 3 to 12-second video demonstration. It has already collaborated with a few customers and customized models for specific scenarios based on feedback.
