Anthropic's Top Model Fails to Sell: Fable 5 Accounts for Only 11% of Spending

Dynamic Insights Beating AI News: Anthropic's most powerful and expensive Fable 5 has been online for over two months, but enterprise clients have not flocked to it. Ramp's corporate spending data shows that Fable 5 accounts for only 6% of Anthropic's model token usage, with a spending share of only 11.4%.

Price is the most direct issue. The Fable 5 API's input and output prices are $10 and $50 per million tokens, respectively, which is double that of Opus 5. Anthropic itself positioned Opus 5 as "approaching the frontier intelligence of Fable 5, but at half the price."

Enterprises have begun voting with their wallets. Opus 5, launched only at the end of July, has already surpassed Fable 5 in corporate spending. In another set of Ramp's data, Fable 5 accounts for only 6% of Anthropic's tokens; for comparison, GPT-5.6 Sol has already captured 25% of OpenAI's enterprise tokens.

Previously, enterprises would usually directly pursue the latest and most powerful models, but this time there is a clear reversal. Accel partner Miles Clements pointed out that most people simply do not need to always use the cutting-edge models. As model capabilities continue to increase, if prices also double, enterprises may not be willing to foot the bill.
