Starcloud has completed a $250 million financing round, which will be used to build an orbital data center.

BlockBeats News, August 22. Starcloud is a startup that develops satellites capable of on-orbit AI inference. The company told TechCrunch that after completing a $170 million Series A funding round in March this year, it has secured an additional $250 million in extension funding, bringing the total amount raised in this round to $420 million and valuing the company at $2.3 billion.

This new funding will be used to build a larger satellite manufacturing facility and advance its largest orbital datacenter spacecraft, Starcloud-3. The spacecraft is planned to be launched into orbit aboard SpaceX's upcoming Starship.

Meanwhile, Starcloud CEO Philip Johnston is raising more funds to ensure the company has sufficient satellite launch resources. As the rocket transportation market tightens, future launch capability may become a key factor limiting the company's expansion.
