BlockBeats News, August 22, According to market sources, The Sandbox's native token SAND on the Base network reportedly experienced a severe security vulnerability, allowing an attacker to gain token minting permission and arbitrarily increase the supply of SAND tokens.
On-chain data shows that the exploit has currently minted over 500 million SAND tokens, and the attack is still ongoing. The market is concerned that the significant increase in supply may impact the SAND price.
Currently, The Sandbox team has not yet issued an official response to the incident. The cause of the vulnerability, the source of the attacker's permission, and the destination of the additional tokens are still to be confirmed.
The "Infinite Mint Attack" is usually caused by a smart contract's permission control flaw or a minting logic bug, allowing an attacker to bypass restrictions and generate a large number of tokens, leading to supply inflation and dilution of market value.
