Insightful Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI has reduced the price of the GPT-5.6 Sol API and credits by over 20%. The discount will last at least until November 21. The API changes have already taken effect, and credits for ChatGPT Work and Codex are also gradually being adjusted for eligible packages.
For the standard short-context API, the price per million input tokens has decreased from $5 to $4, a 20% reduction, while the output cost has dropped from $30 to $20, a direct one-third reduction. For long-context, the input cost, previously $10, and output cost, previously $60, have now been reduced to $8 and $30, respectively.
However, the usage quotas included in Plus, Pro, and Business subscriptions have not increased. This price reduction primarily benefits API users, as well as ChatGPT Work and Codex users who need to purchase additional credits.
At the end of last month, OpenAI had already reduced the price of the GPT-5.6 Terra by 20%, and Luna saw an 80% decrease, while Sol remained unchanged. Now, even the flagship models have seen price drops, with all three tiers of the GPT-5.6 model completing a round of reductions.
