BlockBeats News, August 20th: According to Nick Timiraos, the Chief Economics Reporter of The Wall Street Journal and known as the "Fed Whisperer," Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Wash is facing intense audit pressure from Congress. On Wednesday, local time, four members of the Senate Banking Committee, led by Senator Chris Van Hollen, jointly wrote to Wash, requesting public disclosure of all communication details with U.S. President Trump.
Earlier reports stated that Wash had frequent phone calls with Trump after taking office, but such calls were not documented in Wash's publicly released initial schedule. Lawmakers believe this "selective transparency" may raise concerns about government intervention in monetary policy.
White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett previously stated that Wash had long economic discussions with Trump but said Trump would not pressure the Fed. Trump later denied the reports, claiming he only had a brief conversation with Wash a few days ago.
Currently, the Fed has stated that it will continue to delay the disclosure of the chairman's schedule according to established rules. The market is watching whether Wash will provide additional information and whether this incident will affect external confidence in the Fed's independence.
