According to Compass Beating monitoring, insiders have revealed that payment service provider Stripe has finalized an agreement to acquire AI startup OpenRouter for over $7 billion. The final acquisition price may still be subject to change.

Founded in 2023, OpenRouter is positioned as an AI infrastructure platform that connects users to various large language models. It allows developers to access AI models from multiple companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google through a unified interface, enabling them to choose different models based on performance, price, and availability. If the deal goes through, it will be one of Stripe's key strategic moves in the AI field in recent years. Previously focused on payment infrastructure, financial services, and enterprise software, Stripe's acquisition of OpenRouter may further drive its expansion into the AI developer infrastructure space.
