Coinbase Expands Partnership with AiFi to Build AI-Powered Autonomous Economy Financial Infrastructure

Coinbase stated that it is building a complete AI agent financial service system: AI agents can conduct research, planning, decision-making, and trading on the "Everything Exchange," covering assets such as cryptocurrency, stocks, and derivatives. Additionally, they have introduced the AI investment advisor Coinbase Advisor built into the Coinbase app to assist users in their investment decisions.

On the enterprise side, Coinbase has launched payment capabilities for AI agents, enabling businesses to accept payment in USDC from AI agents through Coinbase Business, with native integration of the x402 standard, eliminating the need to establish a separate payment process. Coinbase noted that this solution does not involve credit card-like chargeback risks, offers a 3.35% reward for idle USDC, and allows businesses to handle fund management, reconciliation, and withdrawals in the same account. Furthermore, Coinbase has introduced the CDP x402 SDK, allowing developers to enable AI agent payment capabilities for API or MCP integration with just about 3 lines of code, without needing in-depth knowledge of x402 technology.

Coinbase mentioned that as AI agents gain autonomous payment capabilities, they also need a marketplace to discover and purchase services. x402 is evolving into a machine-oriented open payment standard, facilitating transactions between agents without human intervention; when AI agents require funds, they can choose Coinbase. Coinbase refers to this entire system as "AI Finance" (AiFi) and describes the economy as being reconstructed around AI agents.
