Databricks Completes $5 Billion Strategic Financing Round, Led by Coatue, with Participation from Blackstone, GV, and T. Rowe Price

BlockBeats News, August 14th, AI data platform Databricks announced that it has completed a $50 billion strategic financing at a post-money valuation of $190 billion. Previously, the valuation announced on July 16th was $188 billion, but the final amount was increased due to the expansion of the financing scale and additional share issuance. This round was led by existing shareholder Coatue, with participation from Blackstone, MGX, and T. Rowe Price, and new investor Sixth Street Growth. The company's revenue run rate has exceeded $7 billion, with a year-over-year growth of over 80%. Co-founder and CEO Ali Ghodsi stated that according to the definition used by the industry by 2022, AGI has arrived—the real bottleneck has shifted to enterprise context, AI token costs, and Agent infrastructure.

The additional funds will be invested in three core directions: Unity AI Gateway (cross-model routing and expenditure control), Lakebase (serverless Postgres database, with a revenue run rate exceeding $1 billion), and Genie (providing AI with access to enterprise context). Ghodsi also revealed that the likelihood of the company IPO-ing before Anthropic or OpenAI is "very low." He had previously denied summer financing rumors multiple times and ultimately decided to finance based on the cost of expanding the AI business and increasing investments in recruitment and acquisitions.
