BlockBeats News, August 8th. According to Bloomberg, 25-year-old Wall Street's rising AI stock wizard and former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner has returned to the investment stage after his hedge fund was on the brink of collapse. He made a bold move by investing $4 billion to support a privately held company backed by Sequoia Capital. Today, it was revealed that the private company is Source Foundry, a chip manufacturing startup. The fund had previously invested $1 billion in Source Foundry, and with this additional $4 billion, the total investment in Source Foundry has reached $5 billion.
This investment, completed on Tuesday, is the first signal of how Leopold is handling the aftermath after his Situational Awareness Fund almost collapsed last week when several Wall Street prime brokers issued margin call notices.
Source Foundry is a secretive chip manufacturing startup founded in San Francisco in 2025 by Stanford material scientists Abdulmalik Obaid (CEO) and Joe Burg. The company focuses on developing a simpler, lower-cost, and faster semiconductor lithography and manufacturing process and tools. Its goal is to challenge ASML's extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machine, address the massive gap between the exponential growth in AI computational demand and the linear expansion of traditional chip production capacity, and thus reshape the production of advanced AI chips.
