Samsung Plans to Transform 800 Million Galaxy Phones into a Stablecoin Wallet, Potentially Becoming the World's Largest Stablecoin Distribution Gateway

BlockBeats News, August 5th - Analysts say Samsung is accelerating its digital asset infrastructure expansion, planning to provide native stablecoin functionality to around 800 million Galaxy smartphones through Samsung Wallet, potentially becoming a key distribution channel for stablecoins like USDC.

Reportedly, Samsung announced at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 that it will integrate stablecoin-related features into future devices, including savings and payment accounts pegged to fiat. Currently, Samsung Wallet is available in 61 countries, with around 19 million users in South Korea.

Joseph Goh, Head of Areta's Asia-Pacific crypto investment banking, stated that the core bottleneck to the mass adoption of stablecoins is not liquidity but user access. He said, "The distribution channel is the scarce asset, and Samsung has a large user base entrance." He believes this move could propel Samsung to become a major distributor of stablecoins like USDC.

Samsung is no stranger to the crypto field. As early as 2019, the company introduced a digital asset wallet through the Knox security module, supporting users to store assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum and connect to Ledger hardware wallets.

Furthermore, Samsung is strengthening its digital asset infrastructure. Samsung SDS CEO Jun-hee Lee previously stated that the company's investment in Dunamu, the operator of South Korea's largest crypto exchange Upbit, is a crucial strategic move to enter the digital asset infrastructure sector, including stablecoins and AI payments.

In May of this year, three Samsung subsidiaries - Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS, and Samsung Card - agreed to acquire approximately 4% of Dunamu's parent company for around $408 million. Analysts believe that while Samsung Wallet is responsible for providing user distribution channels, infrastructure expansions like Dunamu are handling underlying transactions and asset services, indicating that Samsung might be constructing a comprehensive ecosystem covering stablecoins, payments, and digital asset services.
